About the role

The Engine Build Mechanic is responsible for performing engine builds, updates, and inspections on prototype and production engines. The Mechanic will follow directions to achieve expected torques, clearances, and assembly requested by engineering.

 

As a UAW salaried represented employee, the individual is subject to any dues required by Local/National agreements.

 

Qualified candidates for this position will be expected to perform the following duties: 

 

Perform mechanical support associated with engine and transmission testing: 

  • Engine Build Experience
  • Standard engine maintenances (oil changes, spark plug changes, compression/leakdown checks, coolant system pressurization, etc
  • Part changes (cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, etc)
  • Light fabrication (MIG & TIG welding, machining, cutting, etc.
  • Engine teardown (torques, data collection, reviewing build books)
  • Interact on a day-to-day basis with powertrain development engineers to perform work on a test article
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:   

  • High School Diploma
  • General mechanic knowledge and specific experience with engines. 
  • Possess overall good fabrication skills having a high mechanical aptitude and deductive reasoning. 
  • Willingness to work in a team-based environment 
  • Basic knowledge of operating a computer
  • Possession of a mechanics toolbox and hand tool set

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree 
  • Possess skills for MIG & TIG welding on metals including stainless steel, mild steel, cast iron, and aluminum.
  • Proven Engine Build Experience
  • Hybrid/High Voltage experience
