The D464 department is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead a group of radiation analysis, nuclear shielding, and heat transfer analysts in support of existing and future reactor plant designs. The group will support a variety of programs by developing analytical capabilities, performing modeling and analysis of reactor plants, and also heat transfer analyses.

 

Key Responsibilities:

As the supervisor of this group, you will be responsible for leading a group of approximately 10 engineers, reporting to the Department 464 Engineering Manager. The primary area of technical responsibility is in supervising the Radiation Analysis group, which is considered one of Electric Boat’s Centers of Excellence. The group performs analysis of radiation and thermal problems using custom and commercially available computational tools, and supports multiple classes of submarines and surface ships.

 

Responsibilities include leading a team to support new design work though calculations, pursuing new analysis and shielding methods, and supporting construction or fleet issues as they arise. The supervisor must be able to balance schedule and budget constraints while maintaining high quality standards in the group. The role will require working in a highly collaborative environment, interfacing with other engineering departments, design groups, program offices, subcontractors, NAVY laboratories, Naval Reactors, and vendors. The role also requires facilitating the exchange of design information within the department and across all technical interfaces. The shielding group is known for its teamwork and collaboration with various organizations within the Navy nuclear enterprise.

 

Specific areas of responsibility include:

• Developing a culture of high performance and quality through effective performance management and employee development
• Improving and refining analytical capabilities

• Directly coordinate and collaborate with other engineering groups to ensure production efforts meet specified timelines
• Supporting construction issues on multiple classes of submarines and surface ships

• Leading, motivating, training and mentoring employees to drive accountability and career development
• Understanding and managing hiring and staffing needs, including fishnets and manpower planning
• Individual must be able to operate in a collaborative teaming environment, interfacing with various design and engineering departments, operations, subcontractors, and the NAVY customer
• Analyzing the group’s needs and identifying specific training requirements (on-the-job training, mentoring, developmental assignments, formal training, external training resources and opportunities, etc.)
• Develop, implement, and maintain department processes
• Support ongoing organizational improvement efforts
• Build credibility, establish rapport, and maintain communication and relationships with various stakeholders, both internal and external

 

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Marine Engineering, or related engineering degree
• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
• Experience with radiation shielding design philosophy, analytical methods, and technical requirements
• Ability to obtain and hold a DOD Secret security clearance

 

Preferred:

• Masters of Science in Nuclear, Mechanical or Marine Engineering, or equivalent degree
• Experience with naval nuclear reactor shielding design philosophy, radiation analysis methods, technical requirements, and heat transfer analyses
