ABOUT THE ROLE

SMT has a long history in sports as a market innovator in data collection, analysis, distribution, and presentation of content. We are now seeking to add an experience embedded software engineer to our hardware development and manufacturing group. This position will work closely with our Lead Electrical Engineer on initiatives related to firmware and collection of data from athlete and object tracking.

In order to be considered for this role, a candidate must have 2+ years firmware experience post-graduation.

YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT SMT

• Provide engineering assistance and troubleshooting to operations personnel.
• Conduct testing. Write acceptance test procedures and qualification test plans.
• Assist with assembly of prototypes.
• Contribute to integrated product development teams to optimize designs and verify electrical/electronic system performance.
• Proficiency with C++ programming language.
• Proficiency testing software (unit tests and/or functional tests) 
• Take direction from Electrical/Firmware Team Lead to execute hardware and firmware projects.
• Conform to SMT project management and version control standards.
• Desired Skills:
  • Experience performing HW/SW integration using communication protocols such as UART, ethernet, SPI, I2C, etc.
  • Experience with Python programming language.
  • Experience with custom Linux kernels.
  • Experience with TI CCS.

WHAT YOU BRING TO SMT

• 2+ professional firmware development experience.
• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering preferred.
• Experience with common electrical test equipment.  
• Relevant professional experience in embedded systems design and software/firmware development
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Able to work necessary hours to reach project deadlines.
• Willing and able to travel to manufacturing facilities and suppliers as needed.
