Elementary School Speech and Language Pathologist

Summary:

CCSD 89 is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist for the 2026-2027 school year.  In this role one helps to diagnose and treat communication disorders that affect a student's education performance.  They evaluate and provide therapy for articulation, fluency, voice and receptive/expressive language. 

Qualification Requirements: 

• Masters Degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university.
• Hold or be eligible for an Illinois Professional Educator License as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
• Demonstrates excellence in verbal and written communications.  

Essential Duties: (Other duties may be assigned.) 

1. To provide diagnostic services to students who exhibit speech-language problems.
2. Design and establish a remediation program for the impaired child.
3. Evaluate the program and the progress of each child quarterly.
4. Coordinate the speech and language program with the educational program and act as case manager to assigned students. .
5. Participate in interdisciplinary educational meetings to plan for appropriate educational needs of speech-language impaired students.
6. Record all pertinent data regarding services which have been provided to speech-language impaired students.
7. Act as a resource to the regular classroom teacher encouraging referrals and aiding in establishing speech-language carryover activities in the classroom.
8. Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
9. Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
10. Develops an individualized educational program for each child enrolled.
11. Participate in the MTSS Process as appropriate to the discipline of speech-language pathology.
12. Collaborate with other staff as a member of the building student services team and district speech-language department.

Skills Required:

1. Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents and correspondence.
2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the school community.
3. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form.  Ability to write reports as needed.  The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
4. Ability to complete basic mathematical operations and apply concepts of algebra and statistics.
5. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
6. Ability to perform essential duties within school district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear.

1. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, operate office and computer equipment; and reach with hands and arms and will repeat actions with the same hand, arm or finger motion.
2. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
3. The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
4. The position requires meeting deadlines with time constraints, travel between buildings, travel to out of district placements, interacting with the public and staff, irregular or extended work hours. 

Salary and Benefits:  
All certified staff are placed on a salary schedule according to education and experience as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The starting BA, 1 salary for the 2026-2027 year is $57,220.00

Certified staff experience 12 sick days and 4 personal days of paid time off.  All full-time staff have the privilege of partaking in our health and dental insurance program
