Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Electro-Optics Technician II to join our multidisciplinary team, providing essential electrical cable fabrication, connection troubleshooting, and development services and support within the national laboratories environment The selected candidate will join a team of technicians and engineers within the Technologies and Operations (T&O) - Optical Mechanical Technologies organization. The primary responsibility of this role is the preparation and fabrication of basic and specialty electrical and some fiber optic cables and assemblies. This work directly supports the mission of Sub-critical Experiments and collaborating National Weapons laboratories by delivering essential, high-quality technical components in a reliable and timely manner. The position requires working independently on assigned tasks within an established framework, following detailed technical specifications and safety protocols. This role involves close collaboration with team members to plan and coordinate work efforts and interfacing with internal customers to understand project requirements. This hands-on role primarily involves electrical cable fabrication, requiring proficiency in fabrication techniques, the use of various tools and laboratory instrumentation, and the ability to interpret technical drawings. Work will be performed in a fabrication shop environment at both North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), and will require some physical exertion, including long periods of standing and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares and fabricates basic and specialty electrical and fiber optic cables and assemblies.
  • Prepares and fabricates basic and specialty electrical and fiber optic connectors.
  • Ensures products meet technical specifications and quality standards for delivery to Sub-critical Experiments and collaborating National Weapons laboratories.
  • Works within a technical team to provide resources, services, and capabilities efficiently.
  • Operates fabrication equipment and tools, offering hands-on support for projects at both North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
  • Collaborates with technicians and engineers in the Optical Mechanical Technologies organization to ensure successful product and service delivery.
  • Interacts with internal customers to ascertain requirements and ensure satisfaction with delivered assemblies.
  • Experience in the use of basic and powered hand tools, must have a working knowledge of a variety of laboratory instrumentation such as TDR’s, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications for structures, systems, and equipment.
  • Assist with detailed review of drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and format suitability.
  • Follow checklists for specific equipment-related tasks such as calibration, testing, and operation of equipment or tools needed for the position.
