Job Description
SUMMARY: The role will require the individual to design electrical control systems for packaging machinery. This would involve using AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN for circuit designs, complete control system safety analysis using Sistema and write / develop machine software using (Rockwell, Beckhoff, and Zenon).
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct design work on customer projects.
- Attend specification meetings with customers, providing authoritative contribution regarding the Electrical design aspects of the project.
- Communicate with other design engineers (mechanical and electrical) the design on projects to ensure that these are fully coordinated.
- Contribute creative ideas.
- Complete engineering design on time to the project plan.
- Awareness of cost targets in design, purchase, and assembly.
- Document and archiving all project related material.
- Conduct risk assessments on machinery.
- Attend project meetings.
- Provide assistance to Assembly personnel during the build phase of a project.
- Ensure that the electrical aspects of the machinery are in compliance with the requirements of the European Community (CE), National Electric Code, Canadian Standards Association Codes, and Underwriters Laboratory.
- Provide occasional phone and on-site technical support.
Functional Duties:
- Design Electrical control systems using AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN.
- Write and develop PLC code for machine control using Rockwell and Beckhoff.
- Write and develop Servo Motion code for machine control using Rockwell and Beckhoff.
- Write and develop HMI code for operator interfaces using Rockwell and Zenon.
- Write and develop Safety controller code for the machine safety using Pilz and Phoenix.
- Produce Bill of Materials using Agile product lifecycle management software.
- Commissioning of packaging machinery at Syntegon and customer's site.
- Travel domestically and globally as necessary, which requires a valid passport and drivers' license
Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering
- Must have at least 5+ years of Electrical and Software Engineering experience
- Must have a minimum of 3+ years of Engineering experience in the capital equipment industry
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Broad experience within Packaging industry is ideal
- Programming using Rockwell, Beckhoff and Zenon software with understanding of servo motion technology
- Engineering Design using AutoCAD electrical or EPLAN.
- Ability to design for manufacture and assembly and design to cost targets
- Working knowledge of applicable standards and testing requirements, specifically European Community (CE), National Electric Code (NFPA 70 and NFPA 79), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), and Underwriters Laboratory (UL).
- Trained in using performance safety levels and the use of Sistema.
- Troubleshooting, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, and methodical and clear reporting.
- Good team player with good inter-personal and inter-cultural skills and ability to work with and support other team members, both at Syntegon and at the customer (if required).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, requiring flexibility and fast response time.
- Enthusiastic about engineering design with practical, hands-on experience.
- Good communicator; written, verbal and presentation.
- Knowledge of MS office package.
- Dependable and reliable.
