Job Description
Primary Function of Position
Intuitive Surgical, Inc. designs and sells the da Vinci® Surgical System, a minimally invasive robotic surgery system that uses complex mechanics, replaceable instruments and accessories, and enhanced three-dimensional visualization to extend surgical technique and precision beyond the limits of the human hand.
This is a unique role that requires multiple areas of engineering prototype development and release to production. The Electrical Engineer will design and sustain electrical engineering systems of new and existing endoscopes and endoscope controller. The successful candidate will have the capability to adapt, learn fast and work collaboratively with other engineers to resolve complex design and manufacturing issues, as well as the ability to work in an interdisciplinary organization to deliver integrated products. Sound engineering judgment, aptitude to learn, an excellent sense of shared responsibility / shared reward is required as well as a commitment to high product quality.
The Electrical Engineer supports the Multiport Vision Engineering team and works closely with other engineering and clinical disciplines to achieve desired outcomes in the areas of electrical engineering. Excellent communication, solid sense of ownership and organization skills are critical for success in this role.

Essential Job Duties:
This key technical engineering role work with a talented R&D engineering team responsible developing the next generation of electro-opto-mechanical product designs. The role requires the ability to collaborate across functions to implement electronics systems that balance performance, program risk, and commercial viability.
- Implement electronics designs and systems from concept to production release of electrical boards
- Make sound conclusions when faced with the time pressures and ambiguous or incomplete information typical of research and development
- Work effectively with other engineering staff and teams across disciplines (such as Software, Mechanical, Optical, Production test, Supply Chain, Clinical Development, Regulatory) to ensure design outputs work in concert with the rest of the system and meets requirements
- Represent Electrical Engineering on cross-functional project teams; keep track and report / present project status
- Other duties as needed and identified by the functional manager
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Work experience and ability to thrive in a fast-paced engineering / R&D environment
- Experience with executing electrical engineering projects while making sound conclusions on engineering – business tradeoffs or ability and desire to learn these skills
- Familiarity with a broad range of electronic components and hardware, including digital, analog, power, microcontrollers, logic, and communication interfaces; Familiarity and experience with PCB/PCBA fabrication and assembly, rigid and flex board design
- Ability and inclination to reach out to members of the team to ask for guidance and mentoring as needed to perform tasks successfully and learn
