The Opportunity

As a Summer Intern at Black & Veatch in Overland Park, Kansas, you will help address some of the world's most pressing infrastructure challenges. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects to meet our clients' needs and contribute to the growth and success of Black & Veatch. Under close supervision, you will assist in the development of design deliverables requiring knowledge and experience in engineering principles. You will also be exposed to the technical concepts of low and medium voltage, generation, electrical studies and analysis, lighting design, and grounding and lighting protection. You will contributes to a design team performing facility and mission critical design projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Required to be a US Citizen and ability to obtain US security clearance.

Internship Program Benefits

While working on Federal projects alongside ambassadors and department teammates, RISE Professionals also get to participate in BV corporate's intern program modules, collaborative projects, and fun activities. All KC-based participants will work as a team to compose a final project that will be presented at the end of the summer, followed by a fun farewell outing!

Key Responsibilities

  • Learns and applies departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks.
  • Prepares less complex engineering deliverables.
  • Performs research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
  • Prepares engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Seeks out supervisor or project leadership to share information and gain guidance with respect to details of design and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Coordinates with others as assigned by supervisor or project leadership.

  • Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline.
