Main position objectives

The operations intern position will spend time working in various departments within the manufacturing areas of the facility.  Working in different departments will provide experience and insight with the internal workings of manufacturing operations.   The knowledge gained by the intern will help them with their decision in pursuing a manufacturing career.

Position description – Tasks, responsibilities, competencies

• Receive and inspect commercial items ordered from suppliers.
• Pull issue and deliver items for job orders for spare part orders, projects, and inventory.
• Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment through the use of welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools.
• Read and interpret diagrams and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and timeframes for projects.
• Work with fabrication equipment, including press brakes and forming equipment.
• Use grinding/cutting tools.
• Build and mount dryer component parts such as agglomerate catchers and pellet diverter valves.
• Assemble dryer rotors and housings.
• Operates forklift, only if over age 18 and following successful OSHA site specific training.
• Other tasks as assigned by manager.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job in a factory setting, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud and PPE may be required.  Individual is not allowed to perform duties within industrial setting as set forth in state and federal requirements following age requirements (ex. not allowed to operate overhead crane or operate forklift under age 18).

• The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in a warehouse/manufacturing shop environment and subject to changing environmental conditions. These weather conditions may include, but not limited to, temperature variations, humidity, rain, snow, wind and direct sunlight.

• High School diploma or equivalent education (additional technical skills a plus) or in a technical education program where internship assists with graduation requirements.
• Basic computer skills.
