Job Description:
Are you looking to build a career in electrical design while gaining real-world experience? Our Electrical Design Apprenticeship Program at BW Papersystems offers a structured learning path that combines on-the-job training with paid coursework in partnership with Northcentral Technical College (NTC).
This four-year apprenticeship allows participants to work part-time while pursuing an Associate’s degree in Electromechanical Technology. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience in electrical design, automation, and industrial manufacturing. The program is designed to equip you with valuable technical skills while you contribute directly to our innovative engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in electrical schematic design, modifications, and updates.
• Design, manufacture, and work in the panel shop and wire pull area (labeling and pulling wires).
• Interpret and design according to legalized electrical codes (NFPA, NEC, UL).
• Work alongside experienced electrical designers, engineers and manufacturing teams to support electrical system development.
• Produce documentation and liaise with manufacturing to ensure smooth integration of designs.
• Travel between Phillips and Wausau using a company car (paid travel time).
Program Details
• 8-year total program (4 years of apprenticeship + 4-year post-program agreement).
• Education and travel time are paid for, but candidates must be local to the area.
• Apprentices will take four years to complete their Associate's degree in Electromechanical Technology while working part-time.
• Following completion of the Associate’s degree, candidates will be required to work full-time for 4 years for BW Papersystems in Phillips, WI.
• Must maintain a B or above in all coursework (falling below puts the apprentice on probation; two consecutive semesters may result in program termination).
• Paid coursework at Northcentral Technical College (2 days per week).
• Apprentices must complete Red Cross First Aid & CPR training in their first year.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Detail-oriented, mathematically inclined, and well-organized.
