Key Responsibilities:
As the EHS Director you will apply technical expertise in one or more safety engineering disciplines. Develops new standards, policies and procedures, including situations involving new substances for which no previous analysis work has been completed.
Evaluates the introduction of new technologies and their potential interaction with other systems.
Stay abreast of most recent research and industry trends in the regulatory environment including but not limited to international and national building, fire, mechanical, and piping codes.
Develop and/or implements programs to minimize risk to employees, customers, and the environment. Candidate serves in a consultative capacity with other internal organizations.
Coordinates the safety aspects of operations and engineering within the company, with customers and other organizations which are related to operations and products and their design.
Provide EHS solutions to complex work situations. On-site internal customer response, guidance, coaching, troubleshooting, assessments, and on-the-job training is expected. Manages projects to completion by leading groups through technical expertise. Develop skills to report and present safety related status and issues to EH&S team and business groups. The EHS Director is expected to be willing to travel up to 20% and virtually support all global time zones.
Acts as an industry expert representing Applied Materials by providing inputs to company standards. May interface between the company and governmental agencies. Advanced knowledge in EH&S regulatory standards and company policies.
May investigate accidents or incidents and analyze pertinent data. Participates in compliance evaluation of products, programs, and facilities per company and governmental requirements. Investigates accidents and specifies corrective action. Able to use 8D, FMEA, PHA and other investigation and assessment methods. Has working knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements, codes and standard in their EH&S discipline. Evaluates and specifies work methods, design requirements, procedures and policies utilizing the Human and Organizational Performance philosophy.
Guide stakeholders through Applied EHS requirements and assist with program implementation as required. This includes but is not limited to fully understanding the Applied EHS Management System, associated programs and policies, and determining which to apply. Construction/Renovation/Project site walks to perform EHS audits. Promoting Applied’s EHS standards for all projects within the job scope. Providing EHS input related to design criteria ensuring that designs meet applicable standards. Continuing gap analyses to mitigate program deficiencies and evolving working conditions. Participate in on-site design/project review meetings with Facilities, contractors, and stakeholders. Collaborate with facilities Leadership to stay aligned with corporate goals/targets/objectives.
Physical Requirements:
This position may require standing for extended periods of time, walking, working in tight spaces, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, lifting, the ability to distinguish between colors, the ability to work in an environment with noise that may be difficult for some individuals with sensitivity to noise.
Must be able wear PPE such as safety shoes, eye protection, fall protection, hard hat, etc.
Must be able to walk/stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time.
Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs.
Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (powered industrial trucks, building alarms).
Must be able to rapidly respond to emergencies.
Must be capable of assisting others during evacuations.
Must be able to see/recognize and respond to dangerous situations.
Experience required:
Experience leading and managing diverse teams
8+ years of management and construction/design safety
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Ability to travel >20% of time, potentially including international and have a valid passport
Communicate on Microsoft Teams on and off video
