PyRITS (Python REA Impact Tracking System) is a web-based application maintained by Pratt & Whitney for tracking internal engineering authorization requests. As part of the PyRITS team, the P3 Senior Software Engineer is responsible for ensuring constant uptime on the application as well as accommodating a steady stream of requests from users to patch defects, extend existing functionality, and add new utilities to the platform. The role may also be called upon to develop for other P&W systems that are adjacent to or communicate with PyRITS.
The ideal candidate has a full-stack background with signifcant experience using Python and developing for the web. Hands-on experience with Flask is essential for work on the PyRITS platform, while familiarity with HTML, CSS, and particularly JavaScript will go a long way. Interpersonal and communication skills will allow this candidate to excel at the company, as the software engineer will be tasked with occasionally reaching out to stakeholders for clarification and feedback on requests. As part of a small but robust team, the software engineer will also help coordinate sprint planning and participate in story-pointing sessions to ensure a consistent release cycle and set appropriate expectations for stakeholders.
What You Will Do:
- Ability to read and discern requirements documents and technical, non-technical information.
- Ensure security, develop and deploy bugfixes and new features for the web application.
- Ensure performance of web application and database queries.
- Ability to identify and remedy technical debt.
- Ability to model data and algorithms using design patterns.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college/university w/minimum 8+ years of experience OR advanced degree in a software discipline from an accredited college/university w/minimum 5+ years of experience.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.
- 7+ years Front-End Experience: javascript, jquery, jinja, HTML, CSS
- 7+ years Back-End Experience: python, REST API frameworks (flask/fastapi/Django), unit testing (pytest), linux server administration, OpenSSL, python dependencies and shared objects, Advanced understanding of website security: HTTPS/TLS, knowledge of best practices to mitigate common attack vectors
- 7+ years SQL Experience: Oracle/Postgres/MySQL/MSSQL, SQLAlchemy or other ORM
- 7+ years git Experience: gitflow workflow, managing branches from multiple teams, managing approvals, reconciling merge conflicts between teams, ability to create and modify CI/CD pipelines: Jenkins, ansible, web hooks
