Academic Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in Exercise Physiology

The Movement Science program in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan invites applications for a non-tenure track Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor position, ideally commencing in August 2026. We seek colleagues with exceptional experience in the field of exercise physiology with a concentration on either neuromuscular or cardiovascular physiology. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring through innovative and effective pedagogical approaches.

 

Successful candidates will be able to teach undergraduate core courses such as Exercise Physiology, Neuromuscular Physiology, Cardiovascular Physiology, and corresponding laboratory sections, as well as Research Methods and other related topics. Graduate-level teaching assignments will be based on the candidate’s area of expertise and the program's specific needs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate innovative pedagogical approaches, foster experiential learning opportunities for students, mentor graduate student instructors (GSIs), and have prior experience developing or teaching laboratory-based and research-focused courses. Effort in this 9-month appointment consists of 75% teaching responsibilities and 25% engagement in administration, service, and scholarship over fall and winter terms. Administrative responsibilities will be based on program needs, as well as the candidate's expertise and prior experience. Engagement in professional scholarship and participation in departmental, university, and/or community service is expected. The selected candidate will participate in curricular developmental initiatives, attend faculty meetings, and serve on other school or campus committees. General Information about the School of Kinesiology and the University of Michigan

The School of Kinesiology is one of 19 independent academic units and one of seven health science schools and colleges within the University of Michigan. In Fall 2023, the National Academy of Kinesiology ranked the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan as the #1 Kinesiology doctoral program in the US. The school is led by Dean Lori Ploutz-Snyder and has 40 tenure-line faculty, 16 clinical faculty, and 33 lecturers, and approximately 1,250 undergraduate and 152 graduate students. The school is home to some of the country’s top academic programs focusing on movement science, applied exercise science, athletic training, and sport management. In 2021, the School of Kinesiology relocated to a completely renovated building with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities in the heart of the University of Michigan Central Campus. The new building also includes state-of-the-art facilities to support clinical exercise physiology teaching and research. This includes dedicated lecture and laboratory classrooms, a clinical exercise physiology research laboratory, and many other research laboratories and centers.
