Linguist Responsibilities:

• Understanding job or client specifications and completing all language translations, interpretations, analyses, and research accordingly.
• Identifying and making sense of language patterns.
• Completing accurate transcriptions and tabulating data.
• Analyzing documents and texts and translating complex information into simple language.
• Studying languages, cultures, and societies in order to draft national and school language policies.
• Providing translation and interpretation services to the government, military, and other private and public sectors.
• Keeping abreast of new research and developments that influence language.
• Upskill and training to keep current with developments.

• Minimum Qualifications of AS Services
  • Experience/interest in linguistics (syntax/semantics, phonetics/phonology, dialectology)
  • Native or near-native proficiency in target language
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and adapt to a changing environment
  • Ability to focus on a single task for multiple hours
  • Collaborative and solution­ oriented attitude
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Communicates clearly verbally and via email

• Preferred Qualifications

• B.A. in Linguistics, or language-related field (i.e. Modern Languages)

• Advanced degree and/or entry-level industry experience

• Fluency in target language (English)

• Familiarity with language transcription and text annotation

• Familiarity with different language varieties and their distinct linguistic features

• Awareness of the distinction between language ‘correctness’ and grammaticality

• Familiarity with the command line interface, Python, and SQL
