Summary of Job Duties:
The Assistant Director of the Office of International Student Services will advise international F-1 and J-1 students on immigration matters and assist F-1 and J-1 students and dependents, scholars, and researchers with personal, academic, and related issues. This position serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for F and J visa holders. The DSO is the person authorized by the university and approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) to ensure that the university's Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is in full compliance with its approved foreign student program. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree;
At least one year of F and J student immigration experience;
Demonstrated knowledge of the SEVIS reporting requirements;
Established cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Master's degree or equivalent in a related field;
Three plus years of experience working with student immigration regulations and SEVIS;
Travel and/or lived abroad experience.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as both a DSO and an ARO;
Advise international students and visiting scholars on all aspects of F and J visa matters through walk-in advising, appointments, and workshops;
Create, monitor, and report information as a DSO and an ARO according to the requirements of the SEVIS reporting system;
Participate in recruitment activities by designing and developing printed and online recruitment materials and communicating with prospective students through social media, the internet, phone, and personal interaction;
Counsel prospective international students and scholars, evaluate immigration documents, and complete other projects as assigned in support of achieving institutional enrollment and retention goals;
Cross-train across other areas of enrollment management;
