Summary:
Responsible for accounting and related analysis of North American inventory, both from a valuation standpoint on the Balance Sheet and related Cost of Goods Sold accounts in the Profit and Loss Statement. Including, cost accounting for manufactured product, goods acquired for resale and in-transit goods, variance analysis vs. prior year and budget and forecasting/budgeting.
Duties:
• Manage key assembly/kitting costing components:
◦ Add/update standard cost on components
◦ Update/maintain costing lot sizes
◦ Update/maintain labor and overhead ratesA
◦ Ensure Kits/Assemblies setup with correct costing method
◦ Run costing rollup and revaluation process as needed
• Develop/maintain process for monitoring completeness and accuracy of components, BOMs, etc.
• Oversee review of transfer orders between distribution centers for proper costing.
• Develop/maintain standard operating process and policy as to timing and accounting for standard cost revaluations and updating of labor and overhead rates.
• Partner with Supply Chain/New Product Development/Accounting to ensure proper accounting and GL mapping for new products, discontinued products and/or transitioned products (i.e., superseded product, build/kit vs. buy).
• Partner with Operations teams on reconciliation and reporting of multiple Warehouse Management Systems to General Ledger.
• Manage calculations in accordance with GAAP for capitalized freight, capitalized tariffs, on-the-water and right of return inventory.
• Review and analyze landed costs on businesses where applicable to ensure accuracy
• Manage partnering with Supply Chain Analyst in the calculation of excess and obsolete inventory in accordance with GAAP and company policy. Develop recurring processes to ensure disposals and sell-thru of reserved inventory is properly reflected within the reserve and related Cost of Goods Sold accounts.
• Reconciliation of all inventory general accounts: on-hand (RM, WIP and FG), in-transit, capitalized freight and tariffs, excess and obsolete and other related inventory accounts.
• Research and analyze account reconciliation differences and drive root cause resolutions
• Monthly analysis and reporting of P&L Cost of Goods Sold variance accounts, vs. prior year, budget and trend, develop reporting/analysis.
• Monthly analysis and reporting of Inventory Balance Sheet accounts, vs. prior year, budget, and trend, develop reporting and analysis.
• Develop/maintain consistent reporting of cycle count and other inventory adjustments by location, vertical and reason code, ensure reconciliation to the general ledger and proper accounting.
• Develop other analytics/reporting as needed: such as low-cost items, etc.
• Be the key resource as to Inventory Cost Accounting in NetSuite, understand the procedures from beginning to end as to the flow of inventory costs.
• Oversee loading and validation of inventory files for further acquisitions and NetSuite implementations.
• Subject matter expert for Netsuite upgrade testing
• Main inventory resource for site closures as applicable
• Partner with Pricing/FP&A team re: analysis and resolution on items with negative margin sales
• Manage Staff Accountant work direction
• Other duties/special projects as needed to support the team.
Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (CPA, CMA preferred)
5+ years of general accounting experience,
1-2 years with cost accounting and inventory experience
Knowledge of cost accounting & landed cost concepts
Understanding of US GAAP
Experience developing reporting, both at detail and executive levels
Analytical skills, ability to analyze large amounts of data/files
Strong organizational skills, demonstrated ability to achieve deadlines
Attention to detail, completeness and accuracy of deliverables
Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite a plus)
Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel
Previous experience in accounting in a growing multi-unit domestic and/or foreign company.
