About the opportunity

In 2021 Bupa is proud to have expanded our Health Services contract with the Australian Defence Force to the provision of services to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). The Department of Veterans’ Affairs is an Australian Government organisation that supports those who serve or have served in the defence of our nation and commemorate their service and sacrifice.  

 

Our role is to support the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) to meet the Nation’s commitment to care for our veteran and defence service community – the men and women who have served Australia in times of war and conflict as well as peacetime. As part of Bupa’s service offering, Bupa assists the Department of Veterans’ Affairs by providing high-quality clinical advice.  

 

About the role 

 

  • Fixed term 3 days a week ending December 2025 with possibility of extension

 

These roles will be based from ACT Health Centre in Canberra, in the ACT.

The Transition Medical Assessment Pilot Project (TMAPP) aims to expedite claim determination for medically transitioning Australian Defence Force (ADF) members with complex medical situations by providing high quality medical evidence to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) at the time of claim submission and prior to discharge from the ADF. 

 

As part of this program, we’re looking for a Registered Nurse to join the team and help support transitioning members through:  

 

  • Identifying relevant medical evidence within a Defence members file to support their DVA claim;
  • Assisting with intake assessments for participants;
  • Maintaining regular communications with participants;
  • Collating clinical records for medical personnel;
  • Maintenance of electronic and hard copy health records;
  • Inputting health data to health and personnel management information systems;
  • Communication with internal and external members of the treating team, including other health services/facilities to obtain patient information as required;
  • Providing reports from databases when required; 

 

 

About you  

Please note: You must be an Australian citizen and be able to attain and maintain a baseline security clearance from the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA)  who are the central vetting agency for Defence 

 

We’re looking for someone who has:  

  • Unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA with at least 2 years post Graduate experience within the last 5 years.
  • Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • High level written and oral communication skills. 
  • The ability to provide trauma-informed care

Desirable 

  • Knowledge of the Defence health system
  • The ability to navigate clinical records systems
