Transportation Driver/Resident Assistant

 

Position Description

The Transportation Driver implements the transportation service primarily related to medical appointments in the city of Winston-Salem.  Will act as escort for residents when/if needed.

Status Non Exempt

Job Relationships

  1. Responsible to: Medical Transportation Supervisor.
  2. Assignments received from: Director of Continuing Care and Medical Transportation Supervisor.
  3. Nature of supervision received: Direct supervision from Medical Transportation Supervisor.
  4. Position(s) supervised: None
  5. Interaction with: Staff, residents, residents’ families, visitors, public, physician’s office staff, volunteers.
  6. Types of Communication: verbal, written, emails, direct/indirect from residents, residents’ families, physician office staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Drive residents to/from medical and other health related appointments, as well as non-medical transportations, if needed.
  2. Assists residents into/out of vehicle and into/out of the office or facility serving the resident.
  3. Provides the resident with personal support during the appointment when possible and when deemed necessary by the Director of Continuing Care or the Medical Transportation Supervisor.
  4. Encourages volunteers in their efforts as medical escorts.
  5. Assures that vehicles have an adequate supply of gasoline at all times and tracking gas receipts for monthly expense report. Reports vehicle problems/malfunctions to Medical Transportation Supervisor.
  6. Learn the Worxhub and Excel software to assist in scheduling of medical appointments.
  7. Documents, wheelchair transport check sheets, monthly vehicle inspection sheets, and any other required records to document the use of all vehicles.
  8. Represents the Continuing Care Department in all interactions with residents.  Offers encouragement and support while providing transportation services and reports resident needs or concerns to the Director of Continuing Care and/or nursing staff, Medical Transportation Supervisor.
  9. Provides transportation as deemed necessary to support the Activity/Recreation Therapy and the special service functions of the department.
  10. Assist with ELITE transportation as needed.
  11. Performs any other duties/tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis by the Medical Transportation Supervisor and the Director of Continuing Care

Typical Physical Demands

  1. Ability to bend, squat, raise arms above the shoulders and lift 40 lbs.
  2. Ability to push/pull 180 to 200 lbs.
  3. Ability to transfer residents from wheelchair to doctors’ exam chair/table when needed.
  4. Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of a 24 hour daily operation

  1. Ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with older adults.
  2. Demonstrated record of safe driving habits.
  3. Ability to perform mental functions, reading and withstand moderate amounts of stress.
  4. Work habits must include regular attendance, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability and promptness
