Position Title: Lead Custodian

Position Summary
More than a million visitors come through our gates yearly to experience the joy of discovery. Custodians perform daily routines and periodic scheduled tasks as well as special projects. This team matters: they are the front line of our guest experience, being ambassadors for our guests while cleaning and creating a welcoming environment in our facilities and grounds. The Lead Custodian leads the team by example. Shows proper cleaning techniques and responsibilities. Come be a part of our growth-oriented culture. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Wear proper protective equipment at all times
• Vacuum, sweep, mop, clean carpet (using both powered and hand vacuums and or small extractors) and carpet extraction, buffing
• Clean and sanitize bathrooms and restock supplies
• Empty all trash cans and replace liners
• Handle recycling material
• Must wash, clean and dust walls, railing, glass, and stainless steel
• Maintain supplies and equipment in clean and operable condition within individual service closets
• Carry out periodic special cleaning functions
• Assist in updating the maintenance log on a timely basis with items for Facilities staff to repair or replace
• Interact and communicate as needed with other department staff and guests
• Adhere to, participate in and promote Pacific Science Center employment policies, operating principles, events, and culture
• Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of:
• Cleaning chemicals, equipment usage, and work safety preferred
• Excellent customer service best practices
Skills:
• Capacity to follow oral and written instructions and ability to read cleaning chemical labels and proper application of those chemicals; capacity to carry on verbal conversation and communicate with staff and guests
Ability to:
• Lead a team by example.
• Create and maintain staff schedules.
• Operate various types of custodial equipment including but not limited to riding sweepers, riding extractor, buffers, walk behind vacuum sweepers and hand vacuums
• Work independently in absence of supervision; effective team contributor and member
• Work a flexible schedule that may include deviating workdays and hours from the assigned primary work schedule

Qualifications
Required:
• One or more years of related custodian and housekeeping work experience preferable in a public work environment setting
• Supervisory experience
• Must pass required criminal background check
• Dependable and reliable mode of transportation
• Previous work experience in a team-oriented setting or team-oriented work
Preferred:
• Proper use of ride on Vacuum Machines, scrubbers, and buffing machines a plus.

Compensation
Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.
Starting Base Salary
