As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting pharmacists and ensuring patients receive safe, timely, and effective care. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, packaging, and delivering medications to patient care areas, managing inventory, maintaining accurate pharmacy records, and providing excellent customer service. You will be part of a collaborative team that values professionalism, respect, and teamwork, while contributing to patient-focused care, teaching, and research activities across the facility.

A caregiver in this role will work rotating first and second shifts, with start times ranging from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., covering 8-hour shifts within the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. This position also provides third shift coverage for PTO, works every third weekend, and includes two holidays per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.   
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.  
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.   
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.   
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.   
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma/GED   
  • Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).  
  • In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee   
  • Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months 
  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds   

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:    

  • Six months of hospital experience   
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
