Your Role:
The Senior Lipid Synthesis Chemist at MilliporeSigma is a member of the targeted mRNA delivery group and will work on crafting a groundbreaking platform which will enable the therapeutic delivery of mRNA with high precision and safety.
Targeted mRNA delivery has the potential to change patient lives by enabling life changing therapies. An M-Ventures funded biotech start-up is poised to seize the opportunity at the intersection between our Healthcare and Life Science Divisions. Our mandate is to think big and reach across teams to leverage the full capabilities of the organization. With the agility of a startup and the resources of a leading multinational organization, the targeted mRNA delivery team is transforming the way researchers develop mRNA therapies. Responsibilities include:
- Design of novel ionizable lipids, including cationic and anionic lipids, to deliver novel nucleic acid cargo to desired organ of interest
- Designing novel shorter routes of synthesis to enable faster turnaround and higher yield
- Synthesis and analysis of novel lipids
- Active engagement with formulations and biology team to develop structure activity relationship (SAR) based-designs
- Present study observations and data in cross-functional project meetings
- Actively engage with legal/IP teams to determine patentability and freedom to operate on novel designs and enable the team to generate crucial intellectual property
- The lab is located in Burlington, MA with a satellite location in Billerica, MA
Who You Are:
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Organic Chemistry, or other life science and 3+ years of experience in an academic or industrial setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent track record of recent, active hands-on lab work involving organic synthesis
- Experience with lipid synthesis
- Experience with flow chemistry
- Experience in NMR, LS-MS, HPLC, ELSD, CAD and varied purification strategies
- Familiar with Pharma or Biopharmaceutical industry, especially drug discovery
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Work experience in a non-viral delivery group
- Ability to work under pressure in a global, matrixed organization across multiple time zones and geographies
- Highly organized, detailed, creative, results-driven problem solver with demonstrated flexibility and collaborative working style
