About the role
General Description:The primary responsibilities of this role are to develop, administer, and track HRL’s various environmental programs in order to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. This includes day-to-day compliance activities as well as medium- and long-term planning. The candidate may also be required to take on additional health and safety responsibilities to support the overall HRL EH&S Program. This role will report to the Supervisor, EH&S.
Essential Duties:On-site oversight of operations to maintain compliance with environmental requirements and provide guidance for Research and Operations personnelTimely and accurate completion of Air Emissions, Industrial Wastewater, and Hazardous Waste reportsAssist in overseeing hazardous waste management operations, directing hazardous waste disposal contractors, and reviewing and signing hazardous waste manifestsCollect, organize, and maintain data and documents to prove compliance with regulatory and permit requirementsPartner with Research and Operations departments to prepare environmental permit applicationsDevelop, revise, and administer internal environmental manuals and guidance documentsUpdate and maintain environmental plans and regulatory documentsCoordinate and participate in environmental inspections and auditsDevelop and deliver environmental and safety training
Required Skills:The ideal candidate will have 4+ years’ experience in environmental management and compliance in programs including air, water, and waste. The candidate should have strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations including SCAQMD, VCAPCD, Los Angeles and Ventura County CUPA requirements. The candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter, be organized and detail oriented, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to work effectively and collaboratively with others.Experience in SCAQMD and VCAPCD permitting and complianceExperience emissions quantification and reportingExperience in VOC tracking and complianceKnowledge of hazardous waste characterization, management, and disposal practices and requirementsKnowledge of wastewater management, monitoring, and discharge requirementsAbility to read, comprehend, and summarize regulatory text and determine applicable requirementsExperience in developing and administering training on environmental, health, and safety topicsBasic understanding of the scientific principles of physics and chemistryProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OutlookHAZWOPER training is desiredDOT Hazardous Materials training is desired
Required Education:Bachelor of Science or above in an engineering, environmental, health & safety, or related field.
Physical Requirements:Tasks may require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, including, some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
Special Requirements:US Citizenship. Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance. This role will involve time at HRL facilities located in Malibu, Camarillo, Calabasas, and Thousand Oaks.
Compensation:The base salary range for this full-time position is $82,400 - $103,053 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
