Position Overview
The Plant Laborer/Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe operation of a front-end loader while performing duties associated with the operation of a rock crusher, including loading feed hoppers, loading trucks, assisting in repair and maintenance of associated equipment, and performing various labor tasks as required. This position involves manual tasks of various types.
Wage Range: $18 - $22 per hour, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Performs machinery maintenance and repairs. Unplugs and shovels off conveyors and screens. Changes out screens, rollers, cone liners, etc. Repairs conveyor problems. Greases moving machine parts.
- Performs crusher machinery set up and take down which includes running cables and hoses, setting up blocks, assembling/disassembling machinery, operating skid steer to move parts, tarping, shoveling aggregate, etc.
- Keeps crusher machinery area clean of debris and shovels aggregate.
- Operates equipment to include skid steer (and loader if/when trained).
- Moves excess materials from around the crusher machinery.
- Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
- Keep time and material records.
- Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications.
- Knowledge of weight requirements of loads leaving the pit.
- Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various locations.

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Previous related experience in the construction field is a plus.
- 5 years previous heavy equipment operation experience is preferred.

- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write correspondences and memos.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory and Order processing systems; uses job specific computer system for ticketing and communications.
- May be subject to drug testing, and physical agilities testing.

- Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
- Ability to operate various types of heavy equipment required.
