POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing, and mentoring a team responsible for the billing and collection activities for a number of business units. This position will be required to improve the billing and collection process, manage timeframes and deliverables, while maintaining the highest levels of accuracy. Additionally, this position will be responsible to assist with the design and support of a current billing system initiative. Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement, needed functionality or challenges with existing tools, and work with business and technical teams to provide solutions that help achieve the business' goals. In addition, the VP, Finance – Billing & Collections Operations will develop and monitor the performance of Finance capabilities and work to improve operating processes and service-level objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Directs and drives the daily activities of Collection Teams, including but not limited to Premium Receivables (Open Brokerage, Delegated Authority, Group Captives and Direct Bill) and Deductible Recoveries
- Monitors the activities of the Collections Staff to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures
- Approves disbursements and write-offs within stated authority levels
- Works closely with Underwriting, Premium Audit, Operations and Financial Leadership to resolve issues impacting the timely resolution of receivables
- Provides customer service to Brokers and Insureds
- Assigns, distributes and coordinates workflow for the team. Drives and prioritizes customer service
- Oversees issue escalations to ensure timely resolution
- Collaborates on system projects and system enhancements
- Drive a culture of process improvements within the team.
- Develops and maintains relationships and resolves operational and procedural difficulties/issues with management, work teams and customers.
- Represents the team in meetings with management and other Strategic Business Units (SBUs).
- Prepares and distributes management reports (i.e. production/quality). Ensures adherence to documented operating procedures and reporting requirements necessary to satisfy auditors, regulators and compliance.
- Facilitate identification and resolution of IT related business challenges
- Assist in development of business requirements and improved processes, through analysis of current state, determination of potential solutions, and collaboration across stakeholders and teams
- Work with the business teams to develop business cases for new initiatives
- Lead analysis of business requirements to determine recommended solutions given industry trends, existing landscape, required scope and scale
- Participate in full lifecycle of delivery and support activities (billing, collections and cash management)
- Oversight of Collection Agency / Litigation Management
- Special projects as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated leadership, people management and developmental skills
- Dynamic and motivated individual, capable of handling complex structured tasks that require close attention to timing and detail, as well as unplanned projects and challenges that require effective and unique solutions, often in a compressed timeframe.
- Experience with and exposure to various operational disciplines (actuarial, underwriting, claims, IT, etc.)
- Ability to effectively communicate analysis and conclusions to financial information end-users.
- Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal), evaluating, influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively develop productive working relationships with internal/external peers and other professionals across organizational lines
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills
- Ability to analyze, organize, and present information in a clear and succinct manner
- Ability to take part in active strategic discussions
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience with requirements development, lifecycle methodology, process analysis and design.
