The research assistant would be working on a project focused on using hyperspectral imaging to understand rock mineralogy and composition rapidly and cheaply using imaging data alone. The project would involve three components : (a) Developing a python pipeline to analyze hyperspectral datasets (building upon existing tools through the PI Mittal), (b) Testing Unsupervised ML methods to cluster the spectral datasets into representative classes of spectra - data reduction component, and (c) Detailed spectral modeling using compositional libraries (pure material end-members) of the representative spectra. The project would involve the use of both satellite hyperspectral datasets (EMIT satellite) as well as lab hyperspectral data (collected at PSU on various rock samples).  The main PI for the project would be Tushar Mittal (Assistant Prof, Geosciences) with a secondary supervisory role of Prof. Yashar Mehmani (EME Department).

The Pennsylvania State University is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability in all of its forms.
