Position Purpose:

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Director of Business Operations - Surgical and Procedural Services is responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability of Mount Carmel's surgical and procedural services by collaborating with Finance, Supply Chain, and Operational Leaders to create tools and accountability structures that will facilitate more awareness and ultimately better financial results.

What You Will Do:

Financial Performance:

  • Primary financial executive for health system's surgical and procedural services
  • Responsible for identifying financially sustainable surgical mix and educating and influencing other stakeholders to implement necessary changes to meet financial targets

Planning

  • Leads development of the departmental strategic plan in collaboration with applicable operational leaders.
  • Plans for adequate supplies and equipment to maintain optimal service levels in designated areas.

Performance Improvement:

  • Creates and maintain tools to create awareness and accountability with key stakeholders on volume variances vs. target by provider, payer mix trends, profitabilty trends, and other key performance drivers
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies, procedures, and protocols for designated areas based on regulatory and legislative standards, organizational quality objectives, safety and risk management standards, and organizational financial standards.

Communication:

  • Fosters a collaborative working environment for all team members and staff.
  • Assures timely communication to the appropriate personnel regarding requests, changes, conflicts, needs, and/or unusual occurrences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:  Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related healthcare management field required.  Master's degree preferred (MBA or MHA)
  • Experience:  Seven or more years of experience in healthcare with demonstrable organizational experience in the hospital finance setting related to planning, analysis, and operations.  Meaningful exposure to hospital operations and specifically surgical and procedural areas a plus. Supervisory experience not required, but a plus
  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to influence and drive results.
  • High degree of proficiency in financial analysis, business planning, and pro-forma development
  • Previous experience in a matrixed environment a plus
