About the role

Job Description

At Nordstrom, we apply data science across a complex and rapidly evolving retail landscape to develop innovative business processes and improve the customer experience online and in our stores. Our teams are composed of interdisciplinary contributors with a broad scope who work in an energizing and collaborative atmosphere. We deliver predictive models to identify and prevent fraud; fine tune multi-modal models that enrich our styling experience; and create inventory forecasts that drive purchasing decisions at the core of our business.

We are committed to building teams that reflect the diversity of our customers and active inclusion is core to how Nordstrom wins. We’re an equal opportunity employer and encourage individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to apply. The ideal candidate for the Data Science internship is a creative self-starter and strong technical contributor who is always looking for new opportunities to solve business problems with data-driven tools.

A day in the life...

  • Build predictive models and algorithms and apply them to solve business problems.

  • Work collaboratively with other data scientists and analysts to research, design, and implement production-level, scalable code, and algorithms.

  • Conduct exploratory data analyses, apply statistical methods to data outputs, and visualize your findings in a compelling way.

  • Communicate insights and recommend areas for improvements to stakeholders to drive impactful business results.

  • Gain direct experience working with large enterprise data sets across web, point of sale, supply chain, and customer.

  • Get an up-close, behind-the-scenes view of the retail fashion industry that you won’t find in a classroom.

You own this if you...

  • Are enrolled in a master’s degree program equivalent in math, statistics, computer science, analytics, or related field (e.g. MBA with quantitative focus).

  • Have 2+ years of full-time industry work experience, which occurred between the graduation date from your undergraduate program and prior to starting your master’s program.

  • Have experience with languages used for querying (e.g. Hive/Presto/SQL), preprocessing (e.g. unix/python), and statistical analysis (e.g. R/Python)

  • Have experience with regression modeling, prediction, forecasting, and time series analysis. Experience in machine-learning methodologies preferred (e.g., supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, etc.)

  • Are skilled at communicating technically, at a level appropriate for the audience.

  • Have proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments.

  • Have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic and ever-changing environment.

What’s next? We’re glad you asked…

The 2026 summer internship program is 10 weeks long from June 8 - August 14, 2026 in Seattle, WA. Travel and housing are sponsored during program participation.  We anticipate hiring decisions being made by November 2025.    The hourly pay for this role will be $46.45.
