The Messaging Team is seeking an intern who is passionate about large-scale web technologies and building delightful products for customers.  Our team’s mission is to empower users to have effective conversations and collaborate about Smartsheet items both within Smartsheet and across other collaborative platforms. We build and support the conversations feature within the Smartsheet product as well as our chat client integrations, including Slack and Microsoft Teams. 

You’ll, deploy and maintain both frontend and backend code to support our features.  You will lead a project to modernize one of our notification emails that we send to customers as part of the Smartsheet conversations feature.  You will re-architect how we build and send these emails to take advantage of a dynamic notification platform as well as to decouple the functionality from our monolith application and move it to a microservice that our team owns.

This is a remote internship at Smartsheet, based in the USA. You will report to a Smartsheet Manager for 10-12 weeks over the summer months. The rate of pay for this role is $35.00 hourly

You Will:

• Collaborate and work closely with a team of engineers, product and UX partners to build a delightful solution for our customers
• Develop a feature in a microservice environment working with both backend (Java) and frontend (TypeScript, CSS, React, Handlebars) code across multiple repositories
• Participate in frequent code reviews with the team to ensure we produce high quality, scalable, maintainable code
• Work with CI/CD pipelines to deploy your code to various environments
• Work within an AWS cloud environment 
• Be exposed to code, projects and services outside of your defined project
• Work with an awesome, supportive team and learn a ton

You Have:

• Pursuing a BS in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent industry experience
• Recent graduate or a rising senior
• 1+ year of experience writing code
• Basic understanding of algorithms and data structures
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers across the organization in order to drive results on your project
• A strong sense of ownership and accountability and are able to proactively raise issues and blockers to the team
• A self-driven passion for learning and are able to work well with high-level direction - we will closely support you and your growth along the way
• Must be legally eligible to work in the US on an ongoing basis
