Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Remediation Practice in Austin, TX. We are looking for someone with experience in environmental science, sediment remediation, treatability testing and laboratory testing and procedures.

This role is ideal for a candidate with familiarity in sediment management technologies, treatability testing and wet-bench laboratory processes. In this role, the selected candidate will assist in site investigations (field and office), perform bench-scale treatability testing, assist with data management and develop data deliverables.

The selected candidate will work closely with senior scientists, engineers, and project managers to ensure projects are completed successfully, in compliance with regulatory standards, and within budget and schedule. This candidate will work from AECOM’s treatability laboratories in Austin, TX.

The job responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:

  • Treatability Studies: Conduct sediment treatability and dewatering testing (bench- and pilot-scale) including sample characterization, dewatering efficacy evaluation, solidification/stabilization evaluations, laboratory coordination, waste management and data management.
  • General Laboratory Practices: Prepare reagents, perform chemical and physical analyses, troubleshoot laboratory equipment, and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Maintain a detailed record of all laboratory experiments, data and observations. Apply analytical skills to interpret and communicate findings to scientists, engineers, and project managers.
  • Sediment Site Investigations & Sampling: Conduct sediment site assessments, including collecting samples and conducting environmental field investigations. Analyze and interpret data from soil, sediment, water, and biota to identify contamination levels and environmental risks.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Assist in the analysis of sediment sampling data, including contaminant levels, sediment composition, and ecological risks. Prepare technical reports summarizing findings and recommending remedial actions. Ensure data quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Prepare and review regulatory documents required for regulatory compliance and permitting, including site assessments, remedial investigation reports, and remedial action plans. Work with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws.
  • Project Support & Coordination: Assist project teams in managing day-to-day project tasks. Coordinate field activities, data collection efforts, and project logistics to ensure that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner. Support senior staff in managing schedules, budgets, and project deliverables.
  • Environmental Health & Safety Compliance: Assist in the development and implementation of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for field projects. Ensure that fieldwork complies with health and safety protocols and best practices. Attend regular laboratory safety meetings. Maintain laboratory safety records such laboratory-specific Chemical Hygiene Plans, and project-specific Task Hazard Assessments (THAs). Adhere to general laboratory safety procedures and protocols.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field.
  • Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates must pass a drug screening.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates must pass a medical screening.
