Materials Science Chemistry Intern

Coilcraft is a successful, privately-held company in Cary, IL with a worldwide reputation for high-quality passive electronic components. Coilcraft operates in a wide range of industries, including telecommunications, computers, automotive, broadband communications, and consumer electronics. We are seeking a Summer Intern for our Materials Science Department.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist in researching advanced materials for use in electromagnetic components
• Work with composite magnetic materials: powder alloys, organic/inorganic agents
• Prepare samples using powder metallurgy wet chemistry techniques and other processing methods
• Learn to use analytical techniques to characterize samples: Cross section, SEM/EDX, FTIR, UV/Vis, Thermal analysis, electrical measurement
• Utilize knowledge of materials science, and organic and inorganic chemistry in applications such as adhesives, powdered alloys, ceramics, thick film metallization
• Document methods and test data to support product development.

Job Requirements:

• Majoring in Chemistry or Materials Science Engineering.
• Exceptional creative problem-solving skills
• Ability to change directions quickly
• Attention to detail and strong documenting skills
• Ability to collaborate with others
