What you'll be doing

The Energy, Infrastructure, & Transition (“EIT”) team provides investment banking services to existing and prospective clients in the renewable and conventional power, utilities, midstream, upstream energy, infrastructure, energy transition and climate technology sectors. The team has a global coverage strategy across North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia. Our client-centric approach incorporates M&A and other financial advisory services with full access to the debt, equity and loan capital markets. The team also delivers complex risk and hedging solutions to clients. The EIT team manages a market leading platform from our offices in Toronto, New York, Houston, Calgary, London and Bogota.

The team’s coverage mandate includes renewable and conventional power (solar, wind, hydro, biomass, natural gas and storage), utility and utility infrastructure (regulated utilities, district energy), energy transition (hydrogen, CCUS, biofuels, climate technology), infrastructure (airports, roads, ports, rail and logistics, digital), midstream and upstream oil and gas. The EIT team supports our clients through a variety of transactions including M&A, capital structure and strategic advisory, equity and debt capital financings, and tax equity transactions. Through such transactions, our specialized global platform and subject matter expertise enables us to help our clients meet their goals, including net zero and climate goals.

With guidance from Managing Directors, Executive Directors, Directors, or Associates, you will complete assignments that impact the firm's bottom line through transaction and financing execution, client relationship support, industry and company research, and contributing to the overall communication flow across our global offices. The role provides you with steep learning and an ability to observe and influence the strategic direction of our clients’ businesses with exposure to company executives and board of directors.

The role is based in Calgary and the primary sector focus is on upstream energy. The EIT team is committed to supporting CIBC’s clients as they navigate the energy transition from carbon-intensive fuels to sustainable solutions and navigate the impacts this transition will have on connected industries.

Analysts on the EIT team will be expected to provide a broad range of analytical, research and presentation preparation support to all the professionals within their group. Typically, Analysts are assigned to a variety of transactions and advisory projects, such as mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt financings and capital structure and strategic advisory projects, and must have strong prioritization and multi-tasking capabilities. You will also be expected to maintain an awareness of our clients, industry, regulatory issues and relevant economic/political trends.
