Introduction to Geospatial Technologies
Compensation
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.
· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $22.04 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $34.73 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2024)
· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.
Qualifications
a) Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree or have completed a Honours Degree in Geography or equivalent*. If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 13 or more credits) in Geography or equivalent* will be considered.
b) Completion of 4 full credits in Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Geography courses completed is required (or equivalent*).
c) Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent*) or previous experience teaching geomatics.
d) Knowledge of geomatics, experience with geomatics software (including ENVI version 5.0 and ArcGIS version 10.1, and/or QGIS).
e) Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience in geomatics or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context.
f) Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
g) Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines.
*Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor. Applicant must make a case that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.

a. Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
b. It is the responsibility of the member to accept only as many appointments (i.e. hours of work) as will allow their to successfully complete the duties assigned for each appointment. It is understood that members who accept multiple appointments will be held to the same standards and expectations as other members of the Bargaining Unit and other members working in the same course and/or department.
