About the role

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides clinical leadership and supervision of the care of patients in the designated work area. Develops administers, and coordinates therapy services in order to ensure positive patient outcomes. Provides comprehensive therapeutic patient care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited physical therapy school with two years' experience as a staff therapist in a clinical setting required.
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy preferred. One-year supervisory experience preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

  • Current licensure in the state of North Carolina and CPR certification in Basic Life Support, Level C required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides patient care assessment and treatment.
  2. Educates patients, significant others and other health care providers to assure continuity of the patient care plan.
  3. Coordinates clinical operations for staff schedules and patient care processes.
  4. Supervises therapy staff and students to develop their clinical skills and maintain the delivery of quality patient care. Serves as a role model for profession and clinical resource for staff.
  5. Maintains accurate documentation.
  6. Manages and facilitates quality care and growth of clinical staff.
  7. Participates in process management to optimize quality and efficiency of patient care delivery.
  8. Monitors and guides area to insure compliance with all internal and external professional and regulatory agency standards.
  9. Promotes professional development and education of health care workers. Participates as a representative on committees.
  10. Provides appropriate patient care in accordance with age/developmental guidelines.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and on a professional level with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals
  • Ability to communicate with patients of all age groups and significant others appropriate to their level of comprehension
  • Solid organizational skills allowing work to be completed efficiently and accurately
  • Active member in a professional organization
  • Networks within the profession, health care professionals, and others within the community

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
  • May make home visits
  • Subject to stressful conditions
  • Moderate noise environment
  • Clean, well-lit comfortable climate; however, occasional conditions with high moisture content
  • Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and airborne pathogens
  • Possible exposure to infectious and contagious diseases
  • Exposure to unpleasant patient elements, body fluids
  • Subject to electro-mechanical hazards
  • Exposure to chemicals used in cleaning
  • Occasionally handles emergency or crises situations
  • Required personal protective equipment: eye protection, face protection, gown, mask, lab coat, sterile and non-sterile gloves, shoe covers
