Principal Engineer I - Messaging Platform

About the Team

The Messaging Platform team designs and implements the Kafka infrastructure and related tooling and libraries used by all developers at Stitch Fix. We focus on creating low friction tools and practices to maximize developer happiness. We believe happy developers write better code and deliver more value! We practice modern platform practices such as Infrastructure-as-Code, Immutable Infrastructure, and leverage AWS and other Cloud SaaS offerings.  We are also forward-looking and are looking to enable developers to unlock the secrets of the universe via real-time eventing.

About the Role

As a Principal Engineer on the Messaging Platform team, you will build and improve Stitch Fix's event infrastructure. You'll develop tools and automation that enable developers to confidently connect apps, data pipelines, and microservices to Kafka infrastructure. You'll work closely with a distributed team of engineers to design innovative solutions that streamline our operations and help the broader engineering group to scale effectively.

• You have hands-on experience working with Kafka at scale in support of multiple applications and business functions
• You have experience working responsibly to evolve existing legacy infrastructure with care to minimize the impact to uptime, operational metrics, and SLOs
• You enjoy working through ambiguity to generate insights and ultimately deliver concrete solutions that improve the developer experience working with both realtime and bulk event data. 
• You have strong developer empathy and want to improve developers' lives.
• You have a passion for simplifying and automating operational tasks with tools like Terraform.
• You have experience with some of these programming languages and are excited for opportunities to learn others: Java, Ruby, Python, and Golang.
• You have excellent communication skills.
