Epic Operational Database AdministratorJob Description
The Database Administrator II (Epic Operational Database Administrator) (ODBA) supports the administration, performance, and integrity of our Epic operational database environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing Epic's InterSystems Iris/Cache (Chronicles) database, ensuring high availability, optimal performance, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain Epic Iris database infrastructure and operational DB systems (Chronicles)
- Monitor database performance, tune configurations, and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Manage backups, restores, and disaster recovery protocols.
- Collaborate with Epic application teams, report writers, and infrastructure teams to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Apply patches, upgrades, and Epic version releases in coordination with application teams and Epic support.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare data security regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
- Assist with data archiving, purging strategies, and database refreshes as needed.
- Support Epic upgrade projects and assist in integration of third-party tools.
- Create and maintain documentation for database processes, standards, and procedures.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support as required.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of experience as a DBA, with at least 2 years supporting Epic systems.
- Proficiency with Epic Chronicles databases.
- Familiarity with SQL Server and/or Oracle database administration.
- Familiarity with Linux, Storage (SAN) technologies, and backup tools
- Working knowledge of healthcare data privacy and security best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex system and data issues.
Preferred:
- Epic certifications in Operational Database Administration (ODBA)
- Experience with Hyperspace, Hyperdrive, Interconnect, Bridges, or other Epic modules.
- Exposure to scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash) and automation tools.
- Experience in a healthcare or clinical IT environment.
