Taunton State Hospital is seeking an experienced candidate for the position of Security Team Specialist II. This position provides overall supervision to all subordinate Security Team Specialist officers; ensures that all departmental mandated annual trainings are available and completed by subordinates; provides on-the-job training to subordinates, either personally or through referral to Law Enforcement Educational Programs; performs related duties such as conducting staff meetings; maintains departmental records; manages 24/7 coverage scheduling; authorizes/approves all time; prepares periodic reports as requested; and conducts investigations.
Please Note: The incumbent will be working 40 hours per week on the first shift from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Friday and Saturday off. The primary work location will be Taunton State Hospital, however this position will support all sites in the Southeast Area, as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Patrols the facility buildings and grounds providing a safe environment for staff, visitors, and clients.
- Schedules and maintains adequate coverage for shifts 24/7, minimizing overtime usage and maintains Department records concerning scheduling and training providing weekly payroll reports. Performs all aspects of weekly payroll, manages weekly shift schedule approving request for time off based on adequate coverage without occurring overtime.
- Verify and approve reported staff time using the Mass HR SSTA
- Schedules and provides transportation of forensic clients to off-site appointments and court appearances.
- Provides direct supervision to subordinates, issues duty assignments, conducts or delegates investigations and follow-up investigations under direction of Area Security Specialist Director.
- Coordinates completion of yearly training requirements for Security Specialist Officers. Maintains computerized records relating to training compliance, expiration of first aid and CPR certifications, schedules officers for all required trainings. Provides staff trainings when qualified to do so.
- Evaluates performance of subordinates through personal contact and written evaluations, (EPRS). Maintains record of subordinate staff performance deficiencies and disciplinary actions.
- Maintains liaisons with outside Law Enforcement agencies, Courts, and site/facility Administrators.
- In conjunction with supervision of subordinates make recommendations for corrective and disciplinary action as required.
- Represents the Security Specialist function in interdisciplinary committees when requested by the Area Security Specialist Director.
- Ensures that equipment and vehicles assigned to the Security Specialist are in safe working order, conducts periodic inspections, maintains records of inspections, and notifies the Chief of Security when repairs or replacements are needed.
- Issues parking citations or takes other authorized action to control illegal parking on the roadways and parking lots of Southeast DMH properties.
- Transport patients to scheduled appointments and court appearances when requested.
- Immediately reports all noteworthy events in a manner consistent with Department of Mental Health Critical Communications Policy, Site/Facility administrate notification policies and procedures, in accordance with departmental directives to notify the Area Security Specialist Director.
- Maintains accurate documentation of all investigations, inquiries, inspections, and other safety/security occurrences through
accepted law enforcement standards and practices. Prepares accurate and concise incident/accident reports consistent with the
established Security Specialist reporting system as well as the
