The Department of Economics and Business at the Colorado School of Mines is hiring for a full-time non-tenure track faculty member at the rank of Teaching Associate Professor.

We are seeking a new faculty member whose primary expertise is in the application of the tools of engineering economics and economic evaluation and with the desire to train Mines students in these techniques. The main teaching responsibility will be the Engineering Economics course, which is being scaled for delivery to all Mines undergraduates as part of the university’s updated core curriculum. Engineering Economics at Mines introduces students to investment decision modeling in minerals, petroleum, manufacturing, and general investments with a focus on applying cash flow modeling and addressing issues including inflation/cost escalation, leverage, risk, and taxes. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and teach additional courses depending on interests and expertise. These courses may include advanced economic evaluation, investments, and corporate finance. Further, the new faculty member will be expected to collaborate effectively in curriculum development and other departmental and university service. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are highly desirable. We highly value candidates who are excited about engaging with industry partners to enhance the practical education of our students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver course materials in traditional, online, and hybrid modalities demonstrating teaching excellence.
  • Teach 6 courses per academic year.
  • Contribute both institutionally and professionally through active service.
  • Cultivate and promote an inclusive and diverse Mines community through recruiting, mentorship, and service.
  • Collaborate across campus and with industry partners representing the department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in engineering management
  • 8+ years of full-time college-level teaching in economic evaluation or closely related content.
  • Successful record of college-level in teaching large class formats.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with college-level curriculum development.
  • Established record of service.
