Your New Role…
The Director, Collected Editions provides strategic direction and oversight of DC Comics’ Collected Editions (CE) backlist program with a strong focus on revenue generation. Responsibilities include coordinating the yearly slate with content crafted to excite existing and new fans, expanding DC’s worldwide consumer reach, and managing a team of editorial staff.
Your Role Accountabilities...
• Manages and develops a team of editors. Responsible for the ongoing review of CE Editorial staff and assignment of work amongst the team. Provides final CE editorial approval.
• Oversees the CE Editorial development and execution of the CE Slate, updates programming throughout the year. Ensures that the product promised fulfills our financial goals. Collaborates with CE Editorial team on curation planning for new initiatives.
• Identifies opportunities for archive materials and new formats in collaboration with Sales and Production. Makes final format decision based on sales expectations and cost (materials and specs.)
• Coordinates with the Sales team for feedback from our distribution partners to maintain our evergreen backlist via refreshed offerings of content into market and new product opportunities for our content.
• Ensures that the CE product standards and guidelines are applied consistently to publications to meet consumer expectations for the book and direct markets.
• Participates in the review of content adjustments to books and determines the necessity of material to include within a collection to deliver a fulfilling, complete reading experience.
• In partnership with both the CE Editorial and CE Operations teams, sets the reproduction expectation for each product format to ensure that creative resources are effectively utilized to serve the timely delivery of products into the market.
• Collaborates with CE Editorial and Sales on creative and pricing decisions.
• Works with the CE Operations team to assign and oversee Production Editor support services.
• Determines ways to support the CE program’s success by partnering with Marketing, Sales, Social, and Publicity. Coordinates required assets needed for the most thoughtful messaging of our products. Seeks to innovate and utilize new technologies to maximize our reach to existing and new partners and fans.
• Reviews monthly solicitation catalogue to ensure that CE products are featured effectively for the best representation of the line.
• Performs other related duties/projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience…
Work Experience
• At least 10 years of content publishing strategy experience required.
• At least 5 years of experience managing diverse teams required.
• Prior editorial experience is required.
• Comic book industry experience preferred.
Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
Knowledge and Skills
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully (both verbally and in writing) with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Must have the ability to synergize with multiple departments on new and innovative initiatives.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
• Knowledge of and contacts in the publishing/comic book industry preferred.
• Knowledge of core comic book mythologies and terminology a plus.
Other Requirements
• Must be able to travel domestically approximately 10% of the time.
