About the role

FlexStaff is hiring a long-term temporary Medical Office Assistant to join our client's team. Under the direction of the Medical Practice Manager, this position performs routine medical assistant functions as well as other required tasks. Under the supervision of the DTC Clinical staff Medical Assistant will perform venipuncture and finger blood, including drawing, capping, and labeling of blood specimens, as well as performing EKGs.

Location: Brooklyn, NY (orientation in Bronx)                                                                                                         Setting: on-site                                                                                                                                                          Pay Rate: 35.00 per hour                                                                                                                                               Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m-5:00p.m (1 hour lunch)

      JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draws blood and collects specimens according to Infection Control protocols, per MD order and consistent with all other established policies/best practices.
  • Processes specimens according to policy in preparation for pick-up
  •  Identifies specimen correctly.
  • Matches request form with specimen.
  • Appropriately centrifuges specimens if required.
  •  Refrigerates specimen according to policy/acceptable practice.
  • Accurately and without delay orders laboratory tests as per physician’s written orders
  • Tracks test results.
  •  Informs physician in writing of canceled lab tests.
  • Schedules Home Draw Labs.
  • Obtains applicable reports on an ongoing basis via software.
  • Consistently tracks lab supply inventory and orders supplies as necessary while at all timed adhering to the approval process.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Medical technician training.
  • Vision screening training.
  • Experience: At least one (1) year of venipuncture experience, preferably with
  • the elderly population. Must be computer literate.
  • License/Registration: Medical Assistant Certification (must be certified
  • Phlebotomist); EKG.
