Job Description
Brightspeed is looking for a Senior Operations Engineer for our Enterprise and Wholesale group to join our team!
As a Senior Operations Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
Assuming ownership and accountability in areas of recognized technical expertise and provides technical, leadership, guidance, and assistance across different segments. Principal work includes high-level trouble identification and resolution for unique, complex or chronic type network problems, i.e. hardware, software, design, or provisioning. This position proactively takes the technical lead on technical issues or concerns, effectively identifying and resolving problems related to service assurance, network reliability, and customer satisfaction. Communicate frequently with Customers, Vendors, Local Exchange Carriers and other internal Brightspeed workgroups.
The Senior Operations Engineer will act as the subject matter expert for the Service Assurance, Central Office and Field Technicians offering real-time technical knowledge transfer as well as training and escalation support. Demonstrate technical proficiency in multiple equipment types.
Develops, reviews, and issues documentation, such as Methods of Procedures (MOP), Technical Job Aids, Vendor Manuals, Standard Configurations, and so forth.
As new technologies are introduced, this position will provide course feedback and guidance for training targeted for center technicians and other Brightspeed workgroups as needed.
Must be able to work within a 24/7 365-day environment.
Qualifications
What It Takes To Catch Our Eye:
- Associate Degree in engineering, Electronics, Software, or Networks; or a related technical or vocational education plus 8 years experience in a data network and/or telecom environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years experience working on complex assignments in switched communications and telecom equipment installation, operation, and maintenance activities
- Cisco Layer 2 & 3 switch and router configuration and management
- Layer 2 and Layer 3 VLAN configuration and management
- Alcatel Lucent 7750 MPLS network configuration and management
- Frame Relay and ATM service configuration and management
- Routing protocols
- Physical layer troubleshooting
- 2+ years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of Cisco, Juniper, RAD, Ciena, and Alcatel Lucent switches and routers
- Experience with Layer 2/3/4 telecom testing equipment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience mentoring/training/coaching less experienced employees
- The ability to understand and communicate using technical concepts, practices, and terminology
- The ability to self-manage responsibilities to achieve daily results.
- Experience in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment with the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to solve complex challenges, independently analyze information, and make recommendations based on analysis
- The ability to create technical documentation using Word, Excel, Visio, PDF, and Snagit
- Leadership - ability to motivate others, use good teamwork skills, including development of interdepartmental relationships and the ability to make complex decisions
- Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment with ever changing requirements and ability to adapt quickly to those changes
- Experience in improving network reliability
Bonus Points For:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Communications Networking or related field
- 5+ years experience working on complex assignments in switched communications and telecom equipment installation, operation, and maintenance activities
- Cisco CCNA or ALU certification or higher
- Vendor certifications related to Data/Ethernet equipment and/or networks
- Experience training employees in a virtual environment
