About the role

The Vice President Corporate Development is responsible for supporting and executing corporate development initiatives across the full lifecycle. The VP will actively engage in research, analysis, evaluation, and execution related to strategic business opportunities including mergers and acquisitions, special projects, municipal projects partnerships, alliances, joint ventures, and licensing agreements. While not responsible for direct oversight, the VP will engage at the appropriate level across all areas under the SVP's purview and will support the preparation and presentation of relevant data and insights to the Executive Team for potential and completed transactions.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Support M&A deal flow for assigned territories by assisting in maintaining a pipeline, proactively contacting targets, evaluating opportunities, and supporting relationships with Investment Bankers and Consultants to keep the company well-positioned in the marketplace.
  • Contribute to the development of investment theses and actionable steps aligned with corporate growth objectives.
  • Help cultivate and leverage external relationships to drive inbound leads on target companies and prospects.
  • Attend networking events and industry functions to remain informed on market activity and assigned territories.
  • Support risk analysis, diligence efforts, and contingency planning related to potential transactions.
  • Assist in the evaluation and adoption of tools, systems, and technologies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the M&A process.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and internal stakeholders to support company goals, providing analysis, insights, and guidance on corporate development initiatives.
  • Prepare analyses, presentations, and supporting materials for review with the SVP and for presentation to the Executive Team as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships across functions including Finance, Legal, Operations, and Integration teams.
  • Support transaction evaluation, structuring, and execution in partnership with Finance, Legal, and Integration.
  • Assist in defining and executing strategic initiatives that support disciplined growth and long-term value creation.
  • Lead and/or support special project initiatives such as infrastructure, real estate and legislative projects.
  • Support the municipal team with relationship management and new business opportunities. Includes some participation with civic groups and government organizations.

 

Scope of Responsibility:

The Vice President of Corporate Development does not have direct supervisory responsibility but plays a key strategic role across the organization. The position leads cross‑functional project teams, influences major financial and strategic decisions, and supports all phases of mergers, acquisitions, and corporate initiatives. The role requires strong collaboration with Finance, Legal, Operations, Integration, and external partners, as well as a high level of discretion and independent judgment due to the confidential and strategic nature of the work.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
  • High energy, strong initiative, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, transaction-oriented environment.
  • Solid understanding of finance and accounting practices, financial analysis, and valuation methodologies.
  • Strong internal and external customer service orientation with a collaborative mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to senior leaders.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across organizational lines and with external partners

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related industry; MBA or Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, strategy, or a related field.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear, both in person and by phone or web meetings.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to read and interpret data on a computer screen or printed documents.
