Job Title: Journeyman Application Security Specialist
Clearance Required: Public Trust
Work Location: Hybrid in Alexandria, VA

Alpha Omega is seeking a qualified and experienced Journeyman Application Security Specialist to join our team. In this mid-level role, you will plan, implement, upgrade, and monitor security measures to protect computer networks and information. You will ensure the appropriate security controls are in place to safeguard critical digital assets and vital electronic infrastructure. Additionally, you will play a key role in responding to security breaches and virus incidents, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of our systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply in-depth technical knowledge of application security to support secure software development and operations.
  • Utilize security tools and protocols to monitor, analyze, and improve software security across multiple systems.
  • Identify, assess, and report on software application vulnerabilities, and recommend mitigation or remediation strategies.
  • Monitor software environments for indicators of security breaches and respond to incidents promptly and effectively.
  • Conduct detailed security assessments and audits of applications to ensure compliance with internal and external security standards.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate security best practices into the software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience/Skills:

  • 3–5 years of experience in information security or related fields. Proven track record of implementing and monitoring security measures.
  • Strong understanding of secure coding practices, software security tools, and industry-standard security protocols.
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning tools, penetration testing, and incident response.
  • Familiarity with OWASP Top 10, SDLC, and frameworks such as NIST or ISO/IEC 27001 is preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Certification(s):

  • Certifications (Preferred): CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, CEH, or similar certifications.

Salary and Benefit Information:

The likely salary range for this position is $xxx- $95,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
