SENIOR ELECTRICAL CONTROLS TECHNICIAN
Rate of Pay: $41.06-$45.54
Primary Function:
- Primary Function: The Senior Electrical Controls Technician is responsible for directing electrical troubleshooting related to programmable controllers, HMIs, safety devices and other higher level electrical devices across all shifts as needed. This includes accountability for the safety of all maintenance personnel related to the Arc Flash/Electrical Safety Program and for troubleshooting, replacement, and installation of electrical safety devices. Design and implement improvements to equipment related to electrical controls and safety. Support Maintenance work orders and work with Engineering on equipment changes or installations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the electrical safety program in Maintenance
- Lead electrical machine guarding projects and other safety improvements
- Lead troubleshooter for higher level electrical/automation/safety issues across all shifts
- Plan, schedule, or perform training on the various electrical/automation systems throughout the plant
- Support, provide training, and conduct audits for the plant’s Lockout/Tagout program
- Support, provide training, and conduct audits for the plant’s arc flash program
- Responsible for training other Maintenance technicians on the required electrical proficiencies
- Make PLC, VFD, HMI etc. program and wiring modifications as required
- Assist Engineering in keeping documentation and drawings up to date by reporting changes
- Assist Engineering on projects and improvements related to electrical controls
- Continue education, both on-site and off-site on equipment or topics relevant to the plant
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives, countermeasures, and kaizen events
- Maintain the backups of electrical programs and software on the campus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Be able to read and understand the various schematics and electrical prints for the equipment in the plant
- Be proficient with utilizing a computer, including Microsoft Office, SAP, and Prometheus
- Be able to access and utilize the software associated with the various VFDs, PLCs, Wonderware, and HMIs utilized throughout the plant
- Demonstrate effective communication skills: written, oral, and electronic
Equipment/Data:
- Be able to operate electrical troubleshooting equipment, such as a multimeter, megger, oscilloscope, current probe, and computer
- Be able to understand and modify equipment programs written for PLCs, VFDs, safety controllers, etc.
- Be able operate basic shop equipment, such as a lathe, milling machine, and drill press
- Be able to use common hand tools
Expectations:
- This position is intended to provide higher level electrical expertise on projects and troubleshooting. The position will have a high focus on electrical safety and machine guarding. The person who fills this position is expected to remain current with the changing technologies related to this position. The person will be required to complete on-the-job training and electrical related courses. Reviews will be completed yearly where training, courses, and feedback will be looked at.
Work Environment/Time Worked:
- Work Environment:
Mainly an office environment with work done in an industrial manufacturing setting. This person will be required to attend meetings, provide monthly reports, and safety reviews. The job itself can be very stressful at times and can require a fast pace. There will be occasions where machine failures will require intense focus and quick resolution while maintaining safe work performance.
- Time Worked:
Hours Worked – This position will be on a fixed 8-hour day shift. However, when problems occur the individual may be required to come into the Plant at any time if major issues occur. The position will be provided a company phone and may need to take calls as needed when available.
Days of Week Worked - Generally Monday through Friday. Weekday and weekend overtime will be available at times and will be mandatory on rare occasions.
