This is a full-time position located in Augusta. This opportunity allows partial telework with management approval.

The Maine CDC Data, Research, and Vital Statistics (DRVS) is looking for a Data Quality Manager to ensure quality data are collected for Maine’s vital record reporting. DRVS is the lead agency for administering Maine’s vital statistics system and provides quantitative information for surveillance, planning, policy development, program management and evaluation These functions are accomplished through data collection, data processing, and statistical analysis. 

Vital records are critical to identifying public health issues and measuring progress toward public health goals. This position will provide support for DRVS’ mission of collecting high quality data across all vital events records, with a particular focus on medical data in birth records.

This position will monitor electronic records to ensure the records are submitted completely and accurately, review and investigate data validations, build on-going relationships with birth certifiers and medical providers to support quality improvement, and transmit data to Federal partners. As the data quality manager, you will work with other team members to ensure stakeholders understand the importance of accurate, reliable and timely data. 

Core Responsibilities:

As a key member of the DRVS team, your core responsibilities will include:
•    Perform data quality checks of electronic records
•    Follow up with the hospital reporters or funeral directors on data validations flagged through data quality checks or by the National Center for Health Statistics
•    Assist in preparing training materials on use of the electronic registration systems or data collection 
•    Compile and distribute reports to hospitals about their data, including trends, discrepancies, error rates, incompletes and unknowns
•    Engage in electronic and in-person quality improvement activities with hospital staff
•    Transmit data to Federal partners within established timeframes

Minimum Qualifications:

(Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).
A six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience providing knowledge of principles of research and planning. 

Preferred candidates will also have:
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop trainings, outreach materials, and reports
•    Ability to review data and make appropriate recommendations
•    Ability to make logical, independent decisions
•    Knowledge and experience in data collection, database maintenance and data cleaning
•    Background and interest in public health programs and research
•    The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners
•    Computer skills: experience with databases, statistical analysis software, and/or Excel
