Responsibilities
The Senior Unit Coordinator is responsible for receptionist and clerical tasks on the nursing unit. The Senior Unit Coordinator assists the nurses in maintaining unit communications and the transcription/transmittal of physicians' orders, as appropriate.
In addition, the Senior Unit Coordinator performs a variety of duties related to the scheduling of outpatient infusions, related testing, and communicating with physician's offices daily. The Senior Unit Coordinator demonstrates professional behavior during all interactions with patients and the entire multidisciplinary team.
Serves as unit receptionist, greets, and assists patients, visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff.
Answer telephones within the nurses' station, responds to general information requests and conveys messages.
Participates in maintaining complete and accurate medical records and a current patient/unit data within the information system.
Documents patient care data on appropriate forms and records per unit policy.
Performs routine clerical tasks including order entry/data retrieval, as appropriate to the clinical area.
Assists in providing prompt response to patient's call system, refers requests promptly and appropriately.
Places calls to physicians' offices and to other departments as requested.
Maintains effective communication with nurses, other unit staff, families, as well as personnel from other departments.
Maintains cooperative working relationships and supports unit staff in the performance of their duties.
Keeps the nurse's station orderly and maintains an adequate stock of available unit supplies.
Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff; promptly refers maintenance/repair requests.
Participates in the orientation of personnel to the unit.
Participates in continuing education to meet established requirements and for personal job development.
Regular attendance and timeliness are required in your job. This includes the following: (1) being at your work station ready for work by the start of your shift (2)
taking only the time allowed for breaks (3) remaining at work during your entire shift, unless excused by a supervisor (4) leaving promptly at the end of your shift, unless you have been given advance permission from your supervisor to work past that point; and (5) calling in and personally notifying your supervisor or another member of management if you are going to be either absent or tardy, unless a verifiable emergency makes it impossible for you to do so.
Perform a variety of duties related to scheduling outpatient infusions, coordinating related testing, and maintaining daily communication with physicians' offices.
Demonstrate professional behavior in all interactions with patients and the multidisciplinary team.
Manage incoming faxes and requests from non-Monte MDs for infusion appointment requests.
Prepare, manage, and maintain the weekly infusion schedule in collaboration with the Senior Scheduling Coordinator in the Oncology Clinic.
