Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to be based in our Roanoke, Virginia office.
This position is expected to begin in July 2024.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist mid-level and senior structural engineers in the preparation of deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates related to structural systems for commercial and government facilities.
- Develop design calculations for individual structural members using a combination of computer analysis software and hand calculations for a variety of structural materials, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood.
- Utilize 3-D modeling software to develop models of complex structures for analysis and design in accordance with applicable building codes.
- Assist mid-level and senior structural engineers in the performance of field investigations for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents.
- Perform construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI responses, construction inspections, and responding to client requests.
- Work within a project team environment.
- Maintain and organize all project related documentation.
- Coordinate work with other project disciplines.
- Plan and organize work that follows a defined process.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
- Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Passed the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering Exam) as recognized by a state licensing board is highly preferred.
- Master of Science Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
- Experience with REVIT.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- The ability to work with, interpret, and apply national and local building codes.
- Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing.
- Strong written communication, presentation, and client interface skills.
- Ability to take responsibility for given tasks with supervision while proactively developing standard practices and new techniques
