Longshoreman - Dock Laborer

Job Summary
Operate, maintain, and repair machinery/heavy equipment.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment (e.g. dump truck, crane, coal pusher/dumper, bobcat)
• Maintain mechanical parts of conveyors and bulk material handling equipment
• Operate and maintain diesel pushers
• Operate electric and gas welding equipment
• Fabricate, cut, shape, and perform finish operations using various types of materials
• Perform periodic service on machinery
• Operate car retarders and electrical switches
• Perform clean up activities in the dock area as well as other general laborer duties
• Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager

Pay Rate
Full rate $41.56/hour

Training
You will attend paid training, which could be out of town. CSX will pay for travel and lodging as required by collective bargaining agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• 18 years of age or older
• Valid Driver's License
• Heavy mechanical repair experience
• Experience operating heavy equipment
• Outside work experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and/or Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
• Welding certification

Physical Requirements

• Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 83 pounds on a rare basis
• Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection
• Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb
• Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis

Basic Competencies

• Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications)
• Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
• Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
• Basic Math

Job Requirements

• Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
• Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, or safety-toe boots
• Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
• Complete annual training and pass safety rules examinations
• The applicant selected may be required to successfully complete a background check
• Must pass all required assessments
• Must pass a background screening
• Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug test
• This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and membership is req.
