  • Job Summary
  • The Medical Imaging Coordinator will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Medical Imaging Department. Responsibilities will include greeting patients, registration, explaining examination preparations and procedures, scheduling appointments, answering inquiries over the phone, and obtaining necessary preauthorizations for exams. The position will serve as a liaison between patients, medical imaging staff, medical imaging director, and provider office staff, ensuring excellent patient care and efficient operations.

  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • Registers patients and confirms accuracy of all patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Obtain and manage all physician orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, imaging department employees, and physicians.
  • Warmly greet patients as they arrive in the department.
  • Provide clear and concise explanations of examination preparations and procedures to patients.
  • Address patient concerns and inquiries with empathy and professionalism.
  • Provide superior customer service and service recovery, utilizing good judgment that meets and/or exceeds the expectations of patients, visitors, physicians, and MMH staff.
  • Ensure patients are comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
  • Obtain all critical information needed to correctly and efficiently schedule and process imaging exams.
  • Efficiently schedule appointments for various imaging procedures, considering patient preferences and availability.
  • Coordinate with medical imaging staff to ensure optimal scheduling and utilization of imaging equipment.
  • Answer incoming phone calls promptly and courteously, providing information and directing calls as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and update information as required.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and data entry with precision and attention to detail.
  • Assist with billing and insurance-related inquiries as needed.
  • Obtain preauthorization’s from insurance companies for imaging procedures.
  • Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for patients undergoing imaging examinations.
  • Communicate with insurance providers to resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical imaging staff, medical imaging director to ensure seamless patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with referring physicians and other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay updated on procedural changes and best practices.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, close-quarters, high-call volume environment.
  • Utilize multiple computer applications, scheduling software, network drives, reporting systems, to schedule exams.
  • Actively engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Healthcare experience


Preferred Requirements

Bilingual, English & Spanish

Current BLS certification

Experience in radiology


Skills/Competencies

  • Problem solving effectively and according to established practices with little direct instruction or supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and medical office software.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and imaging procedures preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to adhere to patient confidentiality guidelines and ethical standards.
  • Basic Electronic Medical Record knowledge.


Physical Requirements

Perceive the nature of sounds by the ear, express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word, perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes, extend arms and hands in any direction, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands, pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers, perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and stoop, kneel crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum and lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
