Job Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Economics seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Economics, starting in August 2026. This position will be responsible for teaching in-person courses in microeconomics on a regular basis and an applied research and methods course in the online MBA program. Additional teaching responsibilities may include, depending on expertise, economics of social issues, statistics, and an upper-level undergraduate applied field course. The department is open to candidates with a variety of micro-focused research agendas, areas of specialization, and methodological approaches. Current upper-level undergraduate field courses that may need potential coverage include environmental economics and sports economics.

Especially welcome are applicants who can bridge the gap between theory and practice, bring global perspectives to their teaching and research, and convey the importance of economics in a business environment. Applicants seeking a balance in teaching and research responsibilities will find a collegial work environment.

In-person, on-campus teaching and regular office hours are required. Depending on demand and expertise, teaching responsibilities may also include a limited number of online undergraduate courses.

The Wilson College of Business (business.uni.edu) is AACSB-accredited with separate accounting accreditation and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in five departments (Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing & Entrepreneurship) along with MBA and MAcc degrees. The Department of Economics consists of 8 faculty members and around 70 undergraduate students majoring in the department. The department has a history of teaching excellence evidenced by the active engagement of our students. Education Requirements:

Ph.D. in Economics from an AACSB-accredited university required. Economics ABDs are welcome to apply with an expected degree completion date by August 1, 2026. 

Required Qualifications:

Record of excellence in teaching; background in applied microeconomics; demonstrated ability to produce publishable research in economics journals; and demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required. Candidates considered for the Associate Professor level must provide evidence of considerable teaching success, high-quality publications, a strong research pipeline and successful leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Stand-alone teaching experience; experience teaching principles of microeconomics, intermediate microeconomics, or an applied microeconomics course at the undergraduate level; and evidence of ability to advance the academic, professional, and personal success of students preferred.
