About the role

The Role

Reporting to the Vice President of Retailyou will be providing exemplary guidance and leadership to 12+ convenience stores.

As part of your specific responsibilities, in the following areas, you will: 

 

Safety/Environmental

  • Instills the Company’s safety and environmental objectives and ensures that stores comply with the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of retail sites by reinforcing Par’s safety philosophy during every visit to their retail sites.
  • Creates and maintains a strong safety culture with every employee under their management assignment.
  • Immediately addresses any safety issues and concerns that are present at the retail location.
  • In the unlikely event that there is a Safety incident at a site under their management, the Retail Area Manager will ensure all reporting and case management procedures are adhered to. Takes lead or supports each safety investigation that occurs at their respective store.
  • Conducts monthly night ride at each store and addresses identified variances or concerns.
  • Represents Par at each store’s annual DOH inspection of fueling facilities including, pumps, UDC’s, dispensing equipment, VR records and Gold Book.

 

Store Operations

  • Physically visits each store location a minimum of once per calendar week and a minimum of 2 hours per visit (unless geographic considerations prevent this from occurring and with VP approval) to assess store operations, review financial performance and provide management direction. Develops action plans to address store operational needs and maximize financial performance and follows up on these plans until there is resolution.
  • Monitors and takes steps to ensure the day to day operations of the retail facilities under their management are fully compliant with Par Retail operations standards and guidelines.
  • Monitors financial performance daily, weekly and monthly including but not limited to fuel volumes, merchandise sales, other operating income, non-fuel related margin adjustment items and DSOE (Direct Store Operating Expenses).
  • Provides market intelligence including information on competitor market development activities, competitor street pricing, competitor marketing promotions, etc.
  • Actively engages and manages the Store Management Team to quickly address and correct noted deficiencies and under performance.
  • Ensures stores and customer service are maintained at levels which result in a positive public image.
  • Creating and managing special store activities including store openings and closings, grand openings, store promotions, store resets, remodels, etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs at stores including changing filters, replacing nozzles or hoses, changing out POS or Back Office equipment.
  • Takes lead to ensure resolution is reached for store-level issues beyond control of store personnel including accounting, maintenance, environmental, merchandising, vendors, contractors and any other internal/external party.

 

Profitability

  • Understands and analyzes financial statements and other management information system reports for discrepancies, makes recommendations and changes within appropriate level of authority to maximize profitability while controlling expenses.
  • Makes recommendations on capital investment projects in support of business improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in developing financial budgets, labor hour budgets and other store performance metrics.
  • Ensures merchandise, special items and gasoline sales are maximized by monitoring store conditions, in-stock efficiency, pricing and customer service.  Ensures accurate and timely execution of monthly promotions.
  • Assesses and communicates financial impact, security and risk issues related to internal theft and shop lifting and ensures all safety and loss prevention measures are in place and that these measures are consistently being applied and enforced and addresses variances in a timely manner.
  • Is accountable for the financial performance of assigned stores and participates in a review of these stores’ financial performance in relation to the established budget in monthly P & L reviews.

 

Staffing/Training

Ensures proper staffing level of all assigned stores so that customer service and other expectations are met or exceeded while ensuring labor hours are within approved limits.

  • Ensures all retail employees of assigned stores receive proper training and are adequately prepared for employee certifications including NEO, SM/ASM certification and UST Operator Training.
